Gardens

Nature beats all

Early morning and a full day of sightseeing ahead we caught a taxi outside the hotel and headed off towards Tenryu-ji Temple. The temple was completed in 1345 and is now a world heritage site. Together with its Hyakkaen garden it was a great way to start the day.

In the park behind the temple is the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. It might be impressive if you have never seen a bamboo grove before but we found the 100 meter walkway to be a bit overrated.
At the end of the Bamboo Grove lies Okochi-Sanso Villa and gardens. The whole property is on the side of a hill and the beautiful winding path through the garden offers great views. This was definately worth a visit!

Before leaving Arashiyama, we took a walk along the river and grabbed some skewers for a light lunch before hopping on the train.

Once back in central Kyoto we headed to Kyoto Imperial Park and Kyoto Imperial Palace. The park was impressive and we used our last energy to tour the huge palace grounds!

For dinner we decided to go back to the noodle place we found yesterday Roku since it was awesome!
Once filled up we went out to take a look at Kyoto by night. We walked over to Pontocho Alley, a narrow alley filled with small restaurants, it we wern't already full we could have easily found some food here. It was a really cosy neighborhood but it was filled with people and even though we were quite early there were already lines to most of the restaurants.
