Oh dear!

Animals and gold!!

About a 1h drive south from Kyoto lies Nara Park. It's one of the oldest parks in Japan and holds temples, shrines and museums on its grounds but the main reason we went there is the free-roaming bowing deer.
We knew there were to be a lot of deer but were still surprised by the amount of them when we arrived!.

We bought some deer crackers to feed them and Magnus quickly stated
"If they come after you, you're on your own but I expect you to save me if they go after me!"

The explanatory warning sign didn't help either, but Malin did start laughing when she saw the sign said "butt"!
Luckily the deer behaved!

Once done in Nara we headed back to Kyoto and set the gps to the Golden Pavilion - the Kinkaku-ji Temple. The pavilion was on the agenda for tomorrow but it didn't really fit in with the rest of our itinerary so we decided to get it done today instead.
The pavillion was more impressive than we expected but there were so many people you had to fight to get to the front for a selfie!
To round off our visit to the Golden Pavilion, there is nothing better than ice cream with gold sprinkles!

In the evening we went out to hunt down a place for dinner. We walked over to the Gion district across the river from the hotel but didn't find anything we liked that wasn't already full. We even found a heron waiting for a table.
It was a nice evening stroll through Kyoto but we ended up back at the hotel at their noodle place. It was the best noodles we've ever eaten!
