A Day of Driving

Roads, coffee & ice cream

Staying at an iconic japanese hotel you just have to try the japanese breakfast. A japanese breakfast starts off with rice and miso soup accompanied of several side dishes such as fish, pickled vegetables and egg. On the table next to us there was a couple where one person had the japanese breakfast, and one person had the western, and it was funny seeing the person with the western breakfast take picture of it the same way we did with the japanese. It was also nice having a local who we could spy on to see how some of the things were supposed to be eaten.

Before getting on the road today there is a a famous red bridge and a many temples. Our hotel was just across up the hill from the bridge and we went out for an early morning walk to take a look.
There's also a couple of shrines and temples in Nikko that's a World heritage site so we continued our morning walk into the park. Since we were short on time we only visited the Nikkosan Rinnoji Temple before heading back to the hotel.

Now it was time for a day of driving and watching Japan from the road. We stopped on a couple of rest stops for coffee, lunch, bio break and driver change. It's amazing how clean and efficient all the rest stops are.
We also got to try vending machine ice cream and learn how to place your lunch order via a machine.
